Brewing

The Blackfriars brewery is a five-barrel plant which can produce 1,000 litres of beer each brew.
We normally brew three times a week, using the highest quality local malts and traditional varieties of hops.
The mashing process is a traditional infusion at 65 to 68 degrees and the rigorous boil produces a clean hot break. This gives the beer excellent clarity and a long shelf life.
Fermentation and maturation are closely controlled to obtain the correct flavour balance and conditioning for each of our beers, which are matured at cellar temperature and racked directly into casks.
As well as the casks supplied to hotel and pub customers, we also produce our beers in bottles, 5-litre cans and 10-litre and 20-litre beer-in-a-box containers.
